So.. a new game studio hey?
What do you get if you cross a bored engineer with an insatiable thirst for creating stories? Well, it depends right? (You thought a joke was coming didn't you?) Two things could happen: Said engineer becomes a compulsive liar, makes a new persona for every person he meets, and lives a thousand different lives to keep things interesting. Or...
He makes a game studio. The ultimate creative outlet. Technical enough and creative enough to satisfy both hemispheres of the engineer's brain. Never bored again.
The thing is, creation and production are opposing forces. One is limitless, the other limits. One is boundless, the other needs boundaries. One can happen entirely within the mind, the other exists to share with others. To make a game studio is to create, but with intent to share - to polish, to perfect, and ultimately, to release a game into the wild, prepared enough that it hopefully won't get eaten by ravenous beasts.
I'm an engineer with a million stories evolving in my head. Sometimes I have input, sometimes I figure it out as it unfolds seemingly on its own. I thought about writing stories, I tried painting pictures, but to me there's something incredible about sharing my vision in its purest form- visually, exactly as I see it. There's really only two options for me: animation, or video games. ¿Por qué no los dos?
Lost My Coconuts is a game creative studio. My first project is a game. You'll have to wait for post 2 to find out more about it. This post is about me, as narcissistic as I'll get (hopefully). So who am I? I'm Luke. I'm married to Sami. We have two boys: one with fur, and one with feathers. Diversity points anyone? I kid. In the day, I'm a solar engineer, at night, a masked vigilante taking out the mob. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
So why should you follow me on this crazy journey? What credentials could I possibly have to reach my lofty goals? Well, apart from being made in the image of the ultimate creator, under my belt is both an engineering degree and a diploma in game art and animation (sort of, story for another day). It's probably worth mentioning that I call the creator of the universe "Father". I've also worked as a software engineer, my current job rarely exhausts me, and even when it does, a switch from left brain thinking to right usually gives me a second wind for creative pursuits even after a long day. Over the last several years I've been prototyping, learning, researching and creating the various bits and pieces I'll need to now take the created idea I have in my head, define bounds for it, understand where its limits should be, and produce my very own little sheep to send out amongst the wolves.
Have I lost my coconuts? Probably. Welcome to the journey.
