Enough talk. Show me. 🥥🌴🍟
I thought it was about time I share some early previz work. This will just be a quick update this week.
I spent some time exploring the concept for my chip characters. I've known for a while that I wanted them to be a chip with stick-figure arms and legs, but.. how do I make that look good? It's a work in progress, but I'm happy with it for now.
Here's a screenshot of the process in Maya.
Next up was skinning the mesh (not as violent as it sounds) which is the process of attaching its various body parts to its skeleton (don't worry, it wasn't violently removed either). With that done, it was a simple matter of exporting it from Maya and bringing it into Unreal.
Something's off.
A few more tries and a ton more errors and eventually I got there. Slapped on a super simple material that barely passes for a crispy beer batter prototype, dropped him on an island, scaled the world up by an order of magnitude (the chip is human sized, a wise man once told me to do it this way rather than scale the chip down, I didn't understand why, so I just did it), and got the money shot.
In a few weeks I'll try to have a seagull flying around too.
Until next time,
Luke
